In a nutshell, WKD Studios is founded by me, Simon. It was born out of frustration on how design was becoming more and more about bottom line and less about creativity.
With more than 13 years of experience in the creative industry (10 years with SeymourPowell design agency in London,UK, and 3 years at JKR Singapore) a more dynamic approach to design is overdue, a new collective approach.
I came to the quick realisation that great work can only be achieved when you have the right people, and the right people may not always be in the same room at the same time.
Gone are the days of being stuck behind a desk in a singular location. Creative freedom, means just that... freedom. The digital age has given us the freedom to create anywhere, at anytime with the right people, providing a richer creative experience without all the 'fluff'.
In order to evolve with the fluidity of the new generation of 'creative nomads', it was clear that fluid partnerships was the future and essential in maintaining uncompromised integrity of the creative work.
" I have been extremely fortunate to work with some of the biggest agencies and talented creatives across the UK and Asia. Each has taught me invaluable insights and experiences in creating feasible, consumer driven ideas that not only encompasses the brand, but offers an brand experience.
Upon my time working in big agencies and freelancing, I have noticed a clear trend, 'great work' was becoming increasingly compromised by bottom line. It became less about the right people for the job and more about who was free. Designers lost their passion, produced what was asked rather than what was right. The industry became increasingly saturated with egos, jargon and fluff. The outcome were ideas that just ticked boxes rather than design that made a positive impact thats excites.
This was when I said to myself it's time to cut the cr*p and focus on reigniting the passion for producing simple 'great work'... the first step is realising that 'great work' involves the right people wherever they maybe, hence the global creative collective..."
